"10,000 Hours" and 5 Decades: Suit Claims Copyright Infringement of 1973 R&B Song

June 10, 2022

--

As reported by Tennessean, music company, Melomega, recently filed a suit that claimed "impudently bold" plagiarism by the writers of the Grammy-winning song "10,000 Hours," a 2019 hit from Justin Bieber and Dan + Shay. "10,000 Hours" was a big hit for Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, earning them a Grammy Award in 2021.

The suit is filed against, among others, the songwriters, publishers, and Dan + Shay’s label.

The suit claims that the writers “stole a core portion” of “10,000 Hours” from a much lesser-known R&B song, “The First Time Baby is a Holiday”, which was written in 1973 and registered by Melomega in 1980.
