Gigi Hadid sued for posting image of herself

April 1, 2019

--

As reported by BuzzFeed, supermodel Gigi Hadid is being sued for copyright infringement by a photo agency based in New York City.

At the end of January, a lawsuit was filed against Hadid alleging an Instagram photo she had posted of herself, in which she was wearing a denim outfit and silver heels, rightfully belonged to a photo agency called Xclusive-Lee. It was alleged that Hadid had obtained neither a license nor permission to use the photo. The agency claimed there were upwards of 50 other examples of uncredited photos on Hadid’s Instagram, much like the (now-deleted) photo at issue in Xclusive-Lee’s suit.

According to BuzzFeed, lawsuits like these, in which celebrities are sued for posting copyrighted photos of themselves taken by paparazzi, are becoming more prevalent. Other well-known celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West, Jennifer Lopez, 50 Cent, and Jessica Simpson have all been similarly impacted by lawsuits of this kind.

While some celebrities have settled such disputes out of court, others have spent thousands in legal fees to defend their actions.
