Jaguar Land Rover and Volkswagen patent dispute reaches end of the road

October 18, 2021

--

As reported by Motor1, Jaguar Land Rover (“Land Rover”) and Volkswagen Group (“Volkswagen”) have settled their patent dispute involving off-road technology.

Land Rover had accused Volkswagen of using the former’s patented Terrain Response system, which allows users to select a drive mode – Sand, Rock, Crawl, or Mud – and then optimizes vehicle performance accordingly.

Land Rover initially sought a sales ban of all Volkswagen cars equipped with similar technology, stating that it was “Land Rover’s feature and Land Rover’s only.” Bloomberg noted that Land Rover could potentially earn up to $200 million a year in licensing because of the alleged infringement.
